Independence Day for the USA is coming up July 4th and is an exciting time for Americans and even some of us Australians who love to travel there for the festivities.  Known as both the Fourth of July and Independence Day, July 4th has been a government occasion in the United States since 1941. However, the traditions of Independence Day celebrations go back to the 18th century and the American Revolution (1775-83).

Typical festivities are anything from fireworks, parades and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbecues. Are you looking for a new destination in America to visit for the occasion? Well, here are my top 5 destinations you should take a trip to this year especially if you are celebrating their Independence Day.

Mount Rushmore

Even though there are no longer fireworks displays being held here due to the fragile forest lands that are nearby, it’s still a great tourist spot. Instead of fireworks, there is a whole day of events paying tribute to veterans and active military personnel.

Washington D.C.

Obviously the country's capital is going to rank as one of the main spots to take a July 4th excursion and celebrate the country's birthday. A few of the events to look out for are:

Niagara Falls

Via Thewowstyle

The “Fireworks Over the Falls” and the “Street of Fun by the Falls” provided by Clifton Hill are the two big happenings for Independence Day at Niagara Falls.

Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard

Three of the most attended Independence Day activities here are:

Las Vegas Strip

Via Vegas

Fireworks high over the Las Vegas strip are what each guest needs to see on the Fourth of July in Las Vegas. Head as close to the centre strip as possible outside of Caesars Palace to get the best view. Some other great views can be found at the following spots:

  • Cabo Wabo Cantina
  • High above on the Eiffel Tower
  • The Tower at the Stratosphere
  • Voo Doo at Rio
  • Mix at Mandalay Bay
  • High Roller at The LINQ
  • Sugar Factory at Paris
  • Mon Ami Gabi at Paris

Are you going to celebrate Independence Day with the USA this year? Whether you will have time on July 4th or not, these locations are still very good places to visit at any time of year. Enjoy!
